BRILLIANT! EXCITING! CANNOT WAIT! (I hereby volunteer to be on the tasting committee. You do have a committee, eh?)
Imua Hamakua!

Roland:
We are forming a committee. You are the first one. We need for you to help us evaluate api'i. Richard

Richard,
Over 10 years ago we used to buy our poi direct from a Hawaiian woman with connections to the taro grown in Waipio. It was the best poi we ever ate in our whole life --this tasty and naturally sweet poi was called Lehua. I am not sure if that is the name of the kalo strain or the poi itself, or both.

My husband and I volunteer to also be on your tasting committee!

Richard

Any you are more than welcome. We can use the help. Lehua, I am told, was reserved for the Ali'i. Aloha. Richard

Aloha Richard,
If you want to know more regarding the Lehua strain of kalo, the right person is Uncle Jerry Konanui. He is THE kalo expert.
I once tasted a poi that we (my husband & I) grew and when we steamed it it came out green and at first we were like,"yikes" then we tasted it and it was sweet like kulolo! So ono! Good luck with the poi. We are kalo farmers in Puna. Our non profit is called Hoai Hawaii.
