I totally agree. Hawaii needs to produce more of its own food. Shipping strikes, shipping fuel surchages and dock charges, we are at the mercy of many things beyond our control -- but as consumers we can take control by supporting and buying locally grown produce as much as possible.

P.S. Richard, buying 2 big bunches of bananas every week from KTA to make our daily smoothie:)

Amazing, renewable energy sources, and direct marketing opportunities for farmer-partners... Hamakua Springs Country Farms as one of Hawai'i Islands largest food producers is leading the way not only in thinking but in doing. The WTO and certain USDA policies say whoever can produce products the cheapest should get the market. Richard Ha knows that quality, diversity, and sustainability of not only farming systems but ecosystems is truly the farm of the "new Ahu'pua'a" that will help feed Hawai'i's future.

The old Hawaiians knew a thing or two about sustainability. We are trying to adapt their approach using modern day methods. Thanks you guys for your support.
