This line of thought has crossed my mind a few times recently and been the theme of a couple conversations.

How many jobs on this island indirectly depend on the observatories that are here already? The observatories depend on a wide range of services to operate, all money spent in the community. How much money is spent by the observatories and the employees of the observatories? These numbers should make a huge argument for bringing the TMT to Mauna Kea.

Good jobs and a lot of money spent here on the island. Real opportunity for island residents to benefit from employment with decent salaries and great benefits. Far less environmental and cultural impact than the tourist industry has. These facts need to be highlighted.

Aloha Andrew:
Many families benefit from the astronomy on Mauna Kea. If we all pull together, I'm sure we can make sure that Mauna Kea is protected and respected. And, in return, future generations can benefit from wise decisions made today.
Aloha
