Also, on another note, the first federal permit for tidal wave energy was issued to Oregon the other day:

Hawaii is a main tidal energy location. The Department of Energy (DOE) released a recent study showing Hawaii tidal energy has the potential for over 130 Terawatt-hours per year. This would far exceed the entire state's energy needs, potentially making all the other sources secondary:

Tidal turbines in the ʻAlenuihāhā Channel would easily meet clean energy needs with almost no environmental impact using very conventional, low risk technology (although the frame structures are very large).
